Vicki’s parents wanted a lasting, meaningful gift for their two daughters, different from toys. The gift journey began when Vicki started dancing at age 3 1/2 at Dorothy May’s School of Dance, a former Rockette, where she studied ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics for over 10 years. At 15, Vicki received a scholarship to The Miami Ballet Conservatory, studying under Thomas Armour and Renee Zintgraff. Armour later co-founded Miami Ballet. Vicki’s love for ballet has endured for over 30 years, leading her to teach and substitute in ballet. Married to Steve for over 41 years, he is her biggest supporter. In 1992, they moved from Miami to Asheville, NC, with their son. In 1994, they welcomed Ms. Dorothy May into their home, where she lived until 1997. They enjoyed life in the mountain town until they moved to Southport.
Over the years, Vicki has explored various careers and received a wide range of training. If you've ever had lunch with the Sea Lions or watched their births or rescues, there's a good chance Vicki organized your experience, as she served as the Secretary to the General Manager of the Miami Seaquarium. As a licensed hairstylist, she worked in Coconut Grove, Florida, and owned a salon in Melbourne, Florida. She also worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines out of Miami, covering routes across North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. Additionally, she taught ballet and jazz dance in Miami and Asheville, NC. Vicki was a licensed real estate broker in Asheville for over fifteen years. She and her husband buy and sell real estate and manage their own VRBO properties. In 2021, Vicki and Steve relocated to Southport for the coastal lifestyle. A year later, Vicki found Seaside Dance Studio in Southport, quickly put her dance shoes back on, and formed friendships with unspoken bonds. Teri Dixon and Lesly Miller soon invited Vicki to join them and the Hi-Steppers in Wilmington. She found the fellow tappers very kind and as welcoming as family. Tina Leak's gentle nature, great patience, and profound knowledge continue to make the experience amazing. Vicki enjoys all forms of dance, gardening, boating, horseback riding, traveling, mosaic glass art, and reading
