Sharon Binis

Wilmington, Massachusetts
Company Member since January 2024

Born and raised in Wilmington, Massachusetts, Sharon grew up involved in gymnastics, girls ice hockey, and serving as a majorette in the marching band. In high school, she began taking dance classes under the direction of Nancy Chippendale, a former Rockette and founder of one of the country's largest and
most successful dance studios. Sharon has received training in jazz, ballet, Tahitian, and Hawaiian dance.

She and her husband, Mike, raised their family in Concord, New Hampshire. During that time, Sharon was an avid downhill skier, played for a competitive womens traveling ice hockey team that won multiple tournaments across New England and Canada, and competed with a local adult tap group that earned high scores in numerous dance competitions. There were many times when she was changing her hockey skates just in time to put on tap shoes, or vice versa. Once her youngest son was old enough to play hockey, she coached his team for several years, making her (at the time) the only female hockey coach in the youth hockey league.

Sharon earned an RN degree from New Hampshire Technical Institute and worked as an OB-GYN nurse and in pediatrics. She loved being part of families, watching them grow, and caring for their children. In 2020, she and her husband moved from Loudon, New Hampshire, to Holden Beach. They have three adult children, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law, one grandson, and another on the way. One of Sharon’s greatest gifts is being part of their grandson’s life, watching him grow, and spending every moment possible with him.

Sharon’s summer months are very busy volunteering with the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol. As one of the Morning Riders, she is on the beach before the sun rises, looking for the Mamma's and/or any new hatchlings. Then, as part of the Evening Nest Monitoring, she spends the evenings on the beach. Sharon says, “To spend the evenings on the beach and watch those baby hatchlings head to the ocean is just spectacular.”

Sharon stays very active. Over the years, she and her husband have traveled through almost every state in this beautiful country on their Harley motorcycles. She golfs weekly with a 9-hole ladies golf league; bowls weekly in a ladies Ten Pin Bowling League; and recently started taking piano lessons. Sharon is quite competitive at Mahjong, Bridge, and Hand-Knee & Foot. She also takes tap, clogging, musical theater, and ballet classes. In her quiet time, she enjoys making homemade cards and baking, which helps her relax.

Sharon shares, “Teri Dixon, with whom I dance at several studios, encouraged me for over a year to join The Hi-Steppers. After a 50-minute drive to Wilmington, I finally attended one class. I was inspired by Tina’s professionalism, motivation, patience, and expertise, which made me want to come back. The Hi- Steppers is amazing—friendly, supportive, caring, and motivating. Despite the group’s varied history, talent, and backgrounds, we unite for a common purpose. It's a sisterhood I hold dear. Highlights include winning Gold at the 2025 Senior NC State Games in Cary and the Brunswick County Senior Games, along with the bonds we've created through shared laughter, tears, and support both on and off stage. I love these women.”
